Hi, I'm David Mack. In 2006, I decided to build my own Van's Aircraft RV-7 200+ mph two seat homebuilt aluminum airplane and this is a log of the experience.

Earlier this week I finished sanding the fairings on the rudder and VS. They are ready for primer now, but it's too cold out for that. I sanded down the epoxy/flox so the two cowls make a nice joint up here. This is the hinge pin securement detail. I did some sanding in at the joint between the two cowl halves at the inboard side of each inlet. I reinstalled the airbox with the filter. The bolts to the fuel servo aren't torqued in case it needs to come off again. The airbox fit is "cozy," but there is good clearance from everything around it. I covered the filter with cardboard/tape to keep dust out and keep shop air out of the engine. I installed #6 nutplates in the lower cowl where the intersection fairing will attach. I installed two #6 nutplates in the gear leg fairings where the intersection fairings will attach. Finally, each half of each wheel fairing got two more nutplates for the intersection fairings.
