Engine Sensor Installation (Firewall Forward)
6.0 Hours

Previous - Index - Next

I got the engine sensor kit from Spruce last week. Some day last week, I installed the CHT (cylinder head temp) thermocouples. I also installed the oil temperature sensor in its port by the oil filter.

Today, I got back to it. First, I installed the ammeter shunt on the firewall beside the ANL current limiter for the alternator.

The stud size on the ammeter is smaller than the current limiter base, so I had to re-do the 6 AWG line from the alternator with a new piece and new ends. I also made a short piece of 6 AWG to connect the ammeter to the current limiter base.

I installed the manifold pressure tubing to the two pmags. It still needs to be permanently secured and a few tubing clamps installed.

I screwed the three pressure sensors (manifold, oil, and fuel) in finger tight to the manifold.

Then I started working on the EGT (exhaust gas temp) thermocouples. The idea here is that they should be between 2 and 4 inches from the flange and all four should be the same distance away. I used 2.25", although that did put me in the angled section on cylinders 1 and 4. I tried to set it up so the tip of the thermocouple was at 2.25" from the flange on all four and I think I got it close. You can see one of the CHT sensors here too (they screw into a hole in the bottom of the cylinder head).

And here's the left side.
